Grilling Season with Bread on a Stick & Celery-Apple Salad
A grilled sausage just tastes completely different when you grill it in the backyard than when you eat it in a farmhouse kitchen—what do you think?
When our guests have a barbecue in the garden, I usually make some bread on a stick for the kids, which they can then wrap around a long wooden skewer. I’d be happy to share a very simple, delicious recipe with you that doesn’t require yeast dough. It’s also great if you want to prepare it in the morning—you can even freeze it without any problems.
STOCKBROT – Preparation and Quantities:
For 10 loaves: 400 g flour, 1 teaspoon salt, 2 teaspoons baking powder, 2 tablespoons fresh herbs or arugula pesto, 50 g butter or oil, 225 ml milk. Knead all the ingredients into a smooth dough, cover, and let rest. Done.

To grill, roll the dough into strands about 1–2 cm thick and wrap them in a spiral around the wooden sticks. This is important to ensure the dough cooks evenly.
Hold the stick bread over the embers of the campfire for about 15 minutes, turning it regularly.
This celery-carrot-apple salad— so simple and refreshing:
Grate equal parts celery, carrots, and apples, then add lemon balm or freshly squeezed lemon juice, a pinch of sugar and salt, as well as vinegar and oil; let it sit—and you’re done!! Simply delicious.
Does anyone else have any great barbecue recipes that are easy and guaranteed to turn out well? I’d love to hear your suggestions. Warm regards from the Zittrauerhof in the Gastein Valley, Katharina, your local farmer www.gasteinurlaub.com
