Our family and our farm
The Zittrauerhof is much more than just a workplace for us – it is our home and has been part of our family history for many generations. Our heritage farm has been family-owned since the 16th century and continues to be run today with a lot of love and personal commitment.
Together, we take care of the farming, the animals, meadows, forests, our Zittraueralm, and of course, our guests. In doing so, we want to preserve tradition, carefully develop our farm, and show how versatile and vibrant a real farm holiday in Bad Hofgastein can be.
Together for our farm
We run the Zittrauerhof in the Gastein Valley with a lot of love, hard work, and collective effort. For us, farming means responsibility – towards our animals, nature, and a farm that has been managed by our family for centuries.
Our approximately 400-year-old farmhouse combines history and rural tradition with today’s life on a modern agricultural business. It is exactly this connection that we want our guests to experience.
Farming with passion
Our animals, the extensive meadows and forests around the farm, and the Zittraueralm are an integral part of our family life. They shape our daily routine and make the Zittrauerhof a real farm in SalzburgerLand.
In summer, our Noriker horses, goats, cows, and heifers, among others, spend their time on the high-altitude Zittraueralm on the Stubnerkogel. Calves, small animals, and ponies stay at the farm year-round, ensuring there is always something to discover there as well.
Matthias and life on the alm
Matthias Jr. has been closely connected to the Zittraueralm since his childhood. Today, he looks after the animals there with great passion during the summer months, continuing a long family tradition.
Every two days or so, the fresh milk is brought down from the alpine pasture to the Zittrauerhof. This keeps the farm and the Alm closely connected even in summer.
Hosts by conviction
We don’t want our guests to just stay overnight at the Zittrauerhof, but to get to know life on a real farm. Animals, agriculture, nature, and personal encounters are naturally part of a holiday with us.
This creates a farm holiday in the Gastein Valley that is personal, authentic, and close to everyday rural life – for families, couples, and everyone who enjoys spending their holiday in Austria in the heart of nature.
