Grilling Season with Stick Bread & Celery-Apple Salad

A grilled sausage simply tastes completely different in the garden on the grill than in the farm kitchen, don’t you think?

When our guests are grilling in the garden, I usually make stick bread for the children, which they can then wind onto a long wooden skewer. I’m happy to share a very simple, really good recipe without yeast dough. It’s also great if you want to prepare it in the morning—you can even freeze it.

STICK BREAD – Preparation and Quantities:

for 10 stick breads: 400 g flour, 1 teaspoon salt, 2 teaspoons baking powder, 2 tablespoons fresh herbs or arugula pesto, 50 g butter or oil, 225 ml milk. Knead all ingredients into a smooth dough, cover and let rest. Done.

For grilling, roll the dough into strands about 1-2 cm thick and wrap them spirally around the wooden sticks. This is important so that the dough cooks evenly.
Hold the stick bread over the embers of the campfire for about 15 minutes, turning regularly.

Also wonderfully good with sausages and grilled meat is the Celery-Carrot-Apple Salad – so simple and refreshing:

Grate celery, carrots, and apples in equal parts, then add lemon balm or freshly squeezed lemon juice, a hint of sugar and salt, as well as vinegar and oil, let it steep – done!! Simply good.

Who else has great grilling recipes that are simple and sure to turn out well? I look forward to your suggestions. Warm greetings from Zittrauerhof in Gasteinertal, your farmer Katharina www.gasteinurlaub.com
