Autumn is in the air…

For us, autumn is also a time for tidying up, for harvesting, for putting things away… While tidying up the house, I came across a book about the Moomins, those lovable mythical creatures that I liked very much as a child. Who else remembers those cute hippopotamus-like figures?

As an adult, the books still hold their special value, but you see the texts with different eyes.

Tove Jansson’s stories are playful, yet at the same time serious, sometimes melancholic and very sad, with a good ending, but they are always told with great affection. However, her stories are by no means just fairy tales that pretend to be a perfect world.

“The peaceful transition from autumn to winter is not a bad time. It is a time to store and gather as many provisions as you can. It’s nice when you gather everything you have very close to you, your warmth and your thoughts, and when you dig a safe place deep inside, where you defend what is important and precious and what you possess. Then cold and storms and darkness can come as much as they want. They grope over the walls and search for an entrance, but everything is locked.”
