The Winter Dress

As quickly as the year 2017 came, it is already drawing to a close again. The second-to-last month of the year has begun, and Zittrauerhof is putting on its winter coat!

In summer, the farm is dressed in a colourful dress of flowers. There is a little flowerpot on every corner and the garden shines in full splendour. But in autumn that changes very quickly, as soon as everything has been harvested and the summer flowers have faded.

But over the winter months the farm by no means turns into a dreary picture!
Here in the Gastein Valley it is tradition for the houses and entrance areas to be decorated for winter. For that you need a great many mountain pine branches, which are picked and cut by hand up on the alpine pasture. As it is quite a time-consuming job, it takes almost the whole day and several people.

Once the mountain pine has arrived down in the valley, the big decorating begins and the farm shines in wintery splendour! And fitting the winter costume of Zittrauerhof, Frau Holle has shaken her beds and wrapped the Gastein Valley in a white dress. You could almost think winter is here and Christmas is just around the corner.
