The central point on our farm is the 400-year-old farmhouse, which not only offers space for family and friends, but also for our holiday guests. To outsiders, the Zittrauerhof may be a farm like any other, but some may perhaps not recognize what a history the farm carries with it.
Our farm has been in family ownership since the 16th century and is passed down from generation to generation. This is why it is also called an hereditary farm. So what happens to the farm and which decisions are made plays a role not only in the here and now, but also in the future of one’s own family, as they carry these decisions forward over decades or centuries.

But it is not only the history of the farm that makes the Zittrauerhof so dear to us. Especially the charm of the old farmhouse – the oldest walls are 400 years old – enchants us again and again and also our guests. Despite many renovations, care was always taken to ensure that the old elements of the house were preserved.
The creaking of the floorboards when you enter the rooms or the cracking of the wood heating make a stay here something very special!
Old farmhouses hold a charm all of their own. Whether creaking floorboards, old farmhouse cupboards or an old sewing machine, the wood carvings throughout the house – all of this makes life here in the house something very cozy. The house has history, it holds joys, tears, events, moments of happiness and also has – so I find – its own smell (even when I’m not burning incense….. :-). One feels at home, even if one is only here on holiday for a week, many tell us.
Even if the renovation of old houses is very costly because everything is crooked and has already made many a craftsman despair, or when power lines were simply not to be found or the stairs just wouldn’t get finished because everything simply shifted despite custom work, I would not trade this house for a new one.
