Autumn thoughts .. .. ..

It’s hard to believe, but time is flying! Autumn has already announced its arrival with big strides over the last few weeks. Temperatures are dropping, and night is falling earlier again. Last Sunday was the Harvest Thanksgiving service, and many farmers celebrated this wonderful festival in their traditional festive attire. Being grateful for the harvest that has been brought in, for the animals and people who have returned home safely from the alpine pasture, and for God’s blessing.

This year’s autumn in particular is showing its most beautiful side: the leaves are now changing color and the Gastein Valley is glowing in yellow, orange, and red. Despite the cold temperatures, it warms your heart to see the course of nature and the beauty it brings forth. The scent of dew in the grass, the rustling in the leaves, and the last warm rays of summer sun on your skin – a treat for the soul that everyone needs so much.

Anyone who thinks that work on the farm is now decreasing is mistaken. The animals are now on the valley floor and need to be driven from one pasture to another, the pasture fences set up, the calves and cows driven out and in daily, and the last fodder brought in from the meadows. Most farmers also have a beautiful garden that is now being harvested and requires a lot of time.

Most farmers are also already closing up the alpine huts, laying down the fences on the Alms, cutting wood for next spring, and chopping wood for the winter supply. For such outdoor work, you are especially grateful when the weather is kind to you and you can make good progress.

Some alpine huts are also still open in autumn and are particularly beautiful excursion destinations. An overnight stay at the Gamskarkogelhütte, for example, is something very special. Farmer Katharina from Zittrauerhof wishes you a beautiful autumn.
