Living traditions

Every year in February is a very special time for the farms in our area. And so this year, too, the traditional Candlemas with all its customs will take place again. On Candlemas, all signs of Christmas disappear from apartments and houses, heralding spring. To mark the occasion, a lovely festive service will also take place in our beautiful church today at 7 PM on 02/02/2016. It is also a “holiday” for the farming community, and on this day people cook something especially good and work a little less
In the past, it was also the case that on this special day all the maids and farmhands would change farms and start their work in a new place—or stay. And to celebrate this move and new beginning, the now well-known “Schlenker rides” came about, as in Großarltal, which have also become a tradition.

On St. Blaise’s Day, the carriages travel through the countryside, and people also dedicate their thoughts and prayers to cherished “helpers”. We, too, had a farmhand who has remained—and will remain—in all our hearts. He spent several decades here at the Zittrauerhof.

Our dear Willi was and is a very special person for us and we will always keep him in our memory just as many of our guests do too.
