Noriker horses have been bred at Zittrauerhof for many decades. Although Noriker horses are no longer used for hay harvesting and forestry work as they once were, it is still important to engage with them, raise them, and train them from a young age – just like with all other animals.
Olga loves running in the snow
Olga, a beautiful, almost 7-year-old Noriker black mare, was sold in January, and we found a true horse lover for her. Her new owners are especially looking forward to the foal that will be born in spring.
We would love to tell you about Olga’s new home. My husband personally took the mare to Margit Ripper in Stuhlfelden, and Grandpa was, of course, also there for the loading – he loves Noriker horses very much.
Margit Ripper told us a little bit about herself and her farm life:
Rudi and I have been a couple for 15 years and married since 2004; we have two girls. I have been horse-crazy since childhood; we had our first pony when we were children, and as I got older, my first riding horse followed. My father died in a tragic accident, and the horse unfortunately had to be sold. When I met my husband, I immediately bought another horse and boarded it with him. This horse is still with us today and has become a loyal companion. I come from a small mountain farm and met Rudi during my internship for my skilled worker qualification. He took over his parents’ farm at just 17 years old when his father passed away. Until the early 90s, Rudi’s parents always had two Noriker red foxes that were used for hay harvesting. Since the farm is in Zone 3, manure was spread with the horses… So, we both have a strong connection to horses.
For 20 years, the Unterhaslachhof, nicknamed “Jaggeihof,” has been a member of the Cattle Breeding Association and a dairy farm. Currently, 12 cows are milked, and heifers are also raised. We are an organic farm with chickens, a dog, rabbits… I have been the farm manager for 2 years, before that I was a nurse, and my husband works full-time. I ride my trotter horse as often as possible, and my two girls also ride. Riding has become their great passion too.
A Noriker horse has been a big wish of mine for years, and I searched for a long time. I hope Olga gets used to us well. My husband even built a large stall for her. And time will tell the rest; my goal is to ride Olga and spend time with her. You can tell she loves being outdoors.
View from our farm
In the morning, she can hardly wait until I open the door and she can go out into the paddock. In any case, she has found a good home where the whole family takes care of her. In summer, she will go to the alpine pasture with the other animals, and in autumn, she will stay on the meadow for as long as possible.
We are very happy to have found such a beautiful home for our dear Olga and look forward to more stories from her new home!
