A must – the vanilla crescents

For most people, baking cookies is simply part of Christmas. Time and again you like to try out new recipes—best are the ones that turn out for sure, have an uncomplicated dough, are quick, and taste good.

Here is one such recipe for vanilla crescents:

  • 150 g butter or Thea (baking margarine)
  • 200 g flour
  • 15 g vanilla sugar
  • 50 g icing sugar
  • 70 g hazelnuts or walnuts
  • a pinch of salt

Use a food processor or your hands to make a shortcrust pastry dough, cover with cling film and let it rest in the fridge for about an hour.

Then shape it into a roll and cut off little pieces, shape them into kipferl crescents and bake for about 10 minutes at 170°C (preheat the oven first). When the crescents are done, toss them in a mix of vanilla sugar and icing sugar (I always use a wide bowl, sift the sugar in and add the warm crescents). Many people do it so that they let the crescents cool and then sprinkle them with the mix. This makes about 50 pieces, depending on how big you make them. In any case, it doesn’t fall apart, is quick to make, and they really taste good.
