A new cinema film is coming out soon – “Bauer unser”, this film is about agriculture, all facets are examined and critically viewed. I’m already curious how many farmers will take the time to sit down in cinema seats and not wait until the film is shown on television.
The faster time seems to run, the more precious the profession of farmer will become, I’m convinced of that and proud to belong to this professional group. I’m grateful to still know how our animals are kept, that animals in our regions still have names and that the farmer still has a connection to the animal. Even though this film trailer documents that you have to get bigger to survive, I’m convinced that the small-scale farms in Austria have good “survival chances.” In the Gastein valley we’re lucky that agriculture can be combined well with tourism and that tourism operators can in turn market the alpine pasture and farm life well as a holiday experience.
With my farm-stories blog I also want to give an insight behind the scenes, showing what activities farmers are occupied with during the year, what delicacies they produce, what joyful experiences there are and how much hard work goes into it all so that everything functions halfway and can be managed.
When you get feedback from readers, that makes you especially happy. Again and again we also receive pictures from families who have bought animals from us and report how they’re doing. Yesterday I got a lovely email from a little boy from Burgenland, he wished for our Shetland pony colt from his mum and is already working hard with him. Thanks for the kind words and all the best going forward.
Thanks for asking, we’re doing very, very well… The little one “Baily,” that’s what my son christened him, has been with us for almost two weeks now and he’s doing wonderfully. He is so beautiful and well-behaved, he has a lovely character – the little one. The two of them get along great and like each other very much.
Baily with his new owner
He is not shy, very curious, no fear (of what or whom ever…), he is noise-resistant and very trusting. From the first day we groom and brush daily, even when he’s not so dirty, but so he gets used to the fact that this is part of it too. Hoof-lifting also belongs to the “learning unit.” At first still quite fidgety and boisterous, but better each day and holding the hoof longer. Yesterday I had the farrier in for my Friesian and the little one also got his first “pedicure” yesterday.
Baily and his new stall
We either go for walks, alone or with his “big brother” or I take him as a lead horse when I go riding. We’ve done that three times now and he walks along nicely and cheerfully beside us. These are small “walking rounds” through the village or on the field paths or through the forest. Traffic-wise I also have no problems with him and we’ve already had quite a bit on offer…. trucks, small and large tractors, buses, motorcycles, articulated lorries etc. ……. ”
Baily and his walks
Thanks for the report. Very best wishes and a lovely Sunday evening.
