Apple Blessing

The apple harvest season has begun. At Zittrauerhof, too, the time had come to pick the ripe fruit from the trees. We are very happy that this year brought an abundant harvest of very sweet apples.

But what does working with apple trees actually mean? After the annual pruning, bees are brought in to pollinate the trees, or they come by themselves when everything is in bloom. Throughout the summer, the fruits ripen and enhance the beautiful sight of our garden. As soon as the first apples fall from the trees, the garden must be walked through every day to collect them.

To make this work easier, we got ourselves an Apple-Blitz. This roller picks up the apples in no time and saves your back.

Then the time had come: Johannes and Matthias got ready to climb the trees to shake and knock down the apples, and Hias and we women collected them from the ground. It is especially important to sort out the rotten apples here. Of course, all this doesn’t just happen for fun, because you like climbing trees or picking things up from the ground. The apples are then used to make juice, schnapps, and cider.

Some of the apples are processed into apple juice, providing us and our guests with apple juice for the whole year. This year, for the first time, our guests or interested parties can also buy 5-liter bags to take home.

Another part of the harvest is used to make schnapps, which our grandpa distills every year. And the particularly beautiful apples are placed in crates and stored, so you have your own apples for eating, cooking, and baking all winter long.
Thus, the fruit is a true treasure throughout the year!
