Getting closer to the mountains …

It seems summer is slowly announcing itself now. And with summer comes hiking season. Today was a really sunny day that called for putting on the hiking boots and setting off. From now on, the farm stories will also include excursion and hiking tips. And here comes a hiking tip today from Annika from the beautiful Gasteinertal:

The starting point is at the Hoteldorf Grüner Baum in Bad Gastein. It’s best to take the bus there, then you’re more flexible with the route on the way back. Right across from the bus stop, the hiking trail begins toward Poserhöhe. This is meant to be the intermediate destination of the tour. The first hour up to there is really a bit strenuous, because it goes steeply uphill and some sure-footedness is also required. Past many a waterfall and mountain stream, you then reach Poserhöhe. The hut invites you to linger with its treats and cold (and warm) drinks. With a delicious Kaiserschmarrn or a cool Radler, you can enjoy the view of the Hohe Tauern.

After the refreshment, there are various options for the onward route. Further up the mountain you come to Gamskarkogel, below the Poseralm a hiking trail goes toward Café Gamskar on the Gasteiner Höhenweg (the best option to return to the car at Grüner Baum if needed). The third path leads above the hut and winds through playful meadows and rustic forests, past plunging waterfalls and over small wooden bridges. I can warmly recommend the third option. After about 1.5 hours you reach the high trail above Gadaunern, with the best view over the Gastein valley. Down to Gadaunern you come right back to our farm. Or you walk on to Hofgastein and spend a few more lovely moments in the village.
