Living traditions

Every year in February is a very special moment for the farms in our area. And so, this year once again, the traditional Candlemas takes place with all its associated customs. On Candlemas, all signs of Christmas disappear from apartments and houses, announcing the arrival of spring. To mark this occasion, a beautiful festive service will be held in our lovely church today, February 2, 2016, at 7 PM. It is also a “holiday” for the farming community; people cook something especially good and work a little less on this day :-)
In the past, it was the tradition that on this special day, all maids and farmhands would change farms and begin their work at a new location or choose to stay. To celebrate this move and new beginning, the now well-known “Schlenkerfahrten” (traditional horse-drawn carriage rides) emerged, such as those in Grossarltal, which have also become a tradition.

The carriages move through the landscape on St. Blaise’s Day and you dedicate your thoughts and prayers also to beloved “co-workers”. And we too at the farm had a farmhand who has remained and will remain in all our hearts. He spent several decades here at Zittrauerhof.

Our dear Willi was and is a very special person for us and we will always keep him in our memory just as many of our guests do too.
