Hereditary farm? What is that….

I report every week about the work and news on the farm. But I haven’t actually properly explained yet what kind of farm ours is and who “we” are.

The Zittrauerhof is one of those farms in Bad Hofgastein that has existed for many generations. Our farm is also one of those that has been in family ownership for a very long time, to be precise since the year 1614 in the possession of one and the same family. The farm has been passed down through generations to children and family members in the first degree so they can continue the family work, and it fills one with gratitude and pride.

At the certificate presentation in Salzburg two years ago, the provincial councillor said to the distinguished hereditary farms: “This testifies to a connection and love for the land, to perseverance in difficult times, and also to the fact that agriculture must adapt to changing conditions. You provide numerous valuable services that society cannot do without.”

Having a farm means not only providing for one’s own agriculture with people and animals, bearing great responsibility, but also preserving agricultural traditions and passing on farming values, ways of life and cultural heritage, as well as the joy of the work that comes with it.

We hope that we can continue working healthily and happily to keep offering our children a beautiful “Hoamat” (home). I believe it is the most wonderful feeling for every entrepreneur, whether a hotelier, master carpenter or farmer, when the business is continued with joy by the young. Who else shares this view?
