Mooooo… that’s on the cow!
Who would have thought, but today it’s about our cows. Actually, wrong—it’s much more about what our cows give us! The milk… Some of you might already be thinking: What does Katharina want now??? I know the topic of milk is on everyone’s lips at the moment, but it does determine and influence our life here on the farm. After all, we have been and still are a dairy farm for decades and want to remain one—like many other farmers too!!! The current milk price, the marketing price for the cows, is however very worrying overall.

I simply want to share my thoughts with you this week; maybe someone knows answers to questions I can’t answer myself…
Milk is omnipresent in our household, as it is in others. Whether at breakfast, lunch, or dinner; for baking, cooking, or simply to consume; in fresh products or in ready-made goods at the supermarket—you find milk everywhere. Consciously or unconsciously, it is used daily. And yet people are not willing to pay more for a carton or a bottle of milk? Or would people actually pay more for this precious FOOD? I don’t know…
Precisely because milk is contained in so many products and is used regularly, there should actually be an awareness among everyone to value that. Paying four euros for an energy drink but skimping on a liter of milk? I think that simply can’t be right.

Perhaps many people simply don’t see what’s actually behind the milk, or they just don’t know the taste of really good whole milk fresh from the farm. An intern from Germany once told me: “Katharina, this week I tried milk at home again for the first time. And it simply didn’t taste good. The taste used to be normal for me, but after weeks with fresh Alpine milk from you, there’s just no comparison anymore.”
And yes, you can say: milk is not the same as milk! You taste the difference. Whether fresh to drink or in yogurt. Our cows go up to the Alpine pasture every summer and eat lush Alpine grass and mountain herbs. And I claim—and it’s also a fact in the dairy results—that you can taste that ;).

And now I feel like a glass of milk! You too? Then go to the farmer around the corner or buy the good SalzburgerLand milk at the store. Super tasty, super healthy, and simply good! I’m feeling positive and hope that one or another takes this to heart and treats themselves to something good—whether in the form of cheese, milk, yogurt, cake, spreads, curd, etc.—every single person matters. Even though the following poster shows a different animal breed, the message is completely true.
