Rest for the soul
My dears, even though there really is no time for it at all and the cleaning and tidying work is not finished yet, yesterday the weather was glorious, and then you simply have to treat your soul to something.

The garden does me sooo much good, and so after the most necessary work I trudged over to the raised beds, looked at the beautifully blooming orchard, and immediately felt a little time-out for myself. Does anyone else feel the same??

Digging in the soil, planting and harvesting gives me an inner calm; I enjoy the wonderful scent when you weed and touch the herbs. You’re then a little away from everything and recharge. A former intern said to me after the summer, Katharina – this is meditation for me, and smiled.
So that the post doesn’t get too philosophical, I also have a tip for planting lettuce. I always plant lettuce only during the waning moon; during the waxing moon the lettuce heads bolt more easily and then look like trees ;). If there’s interest, I’d be happy to write a post sometime about which plants you should plant next to each other and which not (e.g. chives and parsley).
Cut-and-come-again lettuce is simply a hit, and in spring I plant lots of it between the head lettuce. You have it for a very long time, and the cut-and-come-again lettuce keeps growing back. A wonderful gift of nature. Here in our farm gardens, the growth and protective fleece is now being removed from the plants, as the frost is over and all plants now need the full power of the sun to grow. By Mother’s Day I usually have the first lettuce, and I always look forward to that especially:

Have fun gardening, wishes you Farmer Katharina from Zittrauerhof. www.gasteinurlaub.com
