The Alm summer is over

The Alm summer is over (for anyone who didn’t get it!). Today the last animals returned to the farm. The dairy cows came back a few weeks ago, shortly afterwards the calves, and now, finally, the heifers and horses have come home. It’s a really moving moment when people and animals are back on the farm, healthy and happy. You can see the joy especially in the faces of the children and the family’s grandpa.

But that doesn’t mean the work up on the Alm is over now! From now on, wood has to be chopped, fences taken down, and the Alm hut made winter-proof. All of that takes a lot of work and experience, passed down from generation to generation!

We’re so happy our grandpa is such an Alm grandpa and looked after the children and animals so well!
